Cellulite Treatments

There is a wide variety of cellulite treatment available, but not all forms of treatment have been proven effective. Before you select a treatment plan, be sure you understand what cellulite is and how it develops.

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite is the appearance of bumpy, “cottage cheese” on your legs, thighs and rear end. The bumpy fat is, in truth, smooth fat that appears to be bumpy as it is pushed against connective tissue in the skin. The unsightly appearance of cellulite is not fat that can be “broken up” or “dissolved” in pockets – it is normal fat under your skin.

Cellulite is a condition that most women develop in some degree over time. Even young girls can gently pinch the skin of their thighs to see the ridges and bumps of skin connections and fat beneath them waiting to develop. Cellulite becomes evident as you gain more fat on your lower body – a very typical change for girls as they enter the teen years or girls of any age as they gain weight.

Cellulite Treatments

Among the myriad of treatments are those that actually reduce or eliminate the cellulite on your body and others that simply reduce the appearance of cellulite. In most cases, there is no quick fix, but you can diminish cellulite if you’re in a mind to do so.

Cellulite Removal – Fat removal, or liposuction, can work to some degree to reduce cellulite. The only problem is that liposuction removes the fat that is deep in the tissue – not the fat that is directly under the skin. Granted, if you remove fat from deep in the tissues, the overall appearance of that area will change, but discuss the possibilities of liposuction and reasonable results with your doctor.

Cellulite Injections – A newer form of treatment for cellulite are injections to affected areas that claim to dissolve the fat found there. Other injections help to plump up the area around cellulite making the overall skin appearance smoother with fewer bumps and lumps. Injections can be effective, but only in the area where you received shots, and usually only for a short time.

Cellulite Creams – Creams claiming to dissolve cellulite through the skin are likely exaggerating. There are many cellulite creams that do improve the appearance of cellulite, but this is done through improving the condition of the skin – not dissolving the fat. Firming the skin and helping its overall condition makes cellulite less likely to appear and it will certainly be less evident.

Cellulite Diets – Losing weight can be an almost certain way to reduce the amount of cellulite on your body. Cellulite is fat. Reduce fat and you’ll reduce cellulite. Diet and exercise are the most proven means to removing cellulite.

Cellulite Massage – There are many massage programs that claim to help “break up” cellulite and reduce its appearance. The massage is likely relaxing, but the main benefit of the massage is that the skin that has undergone such a massage will be a bit swollen and appear smoother for a limited time.
